PRISON ARTS PROJECTS
Current creative projects in prisons
Nathan currently runs several two-week courses a year (most recently HMP Hewell) on creative lyricism and reflective thinking in adult prisons as well as one-off lyricism workshops in Secure Units (most recently Barton Moss Secure Care Centre) continuing his 10-year collaboration with ODD Arts.
tipping point project
Nathan’s creative work in prisons began with his ‘tipping point’ youth justice project. Begun in 2015 (funded through winning a Deutsche Bank Award 2014/15), including week-long residencies working with young people in prison, youth centres, PRUs and with care leavers, bringing together creative lyrical writing (grime and poetry) with narrative therapy principles and practices.
further youth justice projects
Extensive work with drama, lyricism and film for organisations including ODD Arts and Synergy (rehabilitation, youth violence).
areas of interest
‘on road’ approaches to youth work, work on the impact of surveillance, policing tactics, Joint Enterprise (see JENGBA campaign) and cuts to youth services
